For starters, I already have MORE than enough trouble in that I either wear a 40L or a 42R depending on the size. (I'm lean, but tall - 6'2-1/2", 185 lbs).
So... B2 or B3?

FYI? I'm crazy about the fabric, design and special elements of many of the Thom Browne pieces but am NOT going to go for the "little boy in clothes that are too small" look. Never. So please bear that in mind when replying.

Finally, I am a perfect 33" waist so at least, in this case, I'm not fluctuating. But that also means I have to tailor EVERY pair of trousers or shorts I purchase since it's a rare treat, indeed, when I discover that Holy Grail of a size 33" pant.

But according to your sizing (and here's where I'm blowing a GASKET), the smallest trouser you have is a 36"? Can that POSSIBLY be correct? You're telling me that guys MUCH bigger than me are wearing that Thom Browne collection? THAT'S funny. Because... I don't think so! But I'm alarmed because I HAVE tailored 36" trousers before but that is a HUGE undertaking because it's hardly JUST the waist. My poor tailor is gonna have a heart attack if I start showing up with armloads of pants that require THAT much tailoring...

So... Planning to order. But am totally THROWN.

My advice is that if you're really in Hollywood, go to either the Beverly Hills or the Century City store and get fitted.

Black Fleece does fit like that "little boy in clothes that are too small" - I am 6'1", used to be almost exactly your size (well, 'til I hit 40...). I wear BB5 shirts, I'd suppose BB4 will fit your shoulders and chest, but unsure of sleeves (BB4 seems to be equivalent to 35" sleeve, BB5 seems more like a 36").

As for trousers, that 36" is not the smallest Black Fleece waistline. That must be a typo. I have tried those on and I think it refers to the length. They all arrive in the store unfinished, with enough fabric it seems to finish them to anything up to 36" length - perhaps even 36" with cuffs. Waistlines in fact range from somewhere around 30" to 38" or so.

p.s. at the store they will also hem and otherwise finish all "unfinished" Brooks Bros. clothes at no charge - which your tailor won't do.

Answer:
A 40 or 42 jacket size would translate to a BB2 or BB3.

A 33" waist would translate to a BB2.

Answer:
Buy it by your suit size. It's cut to fit over a suit of the same size (i.e. if you wear a 40 suit, buy a 40 coat). It's really made for temps from about freezing up to about 55 deg. F. You can keep warm in cooler weather with a scarf, hat, flannel suit, etc., and leave the coat unbuttoned on warmer days. (If you're going casual, you'll probably still wear this with a sweater.)
The cut is probably best approximated by the Madison suits, that is, not too slim, not tapered, etc. If you've got a typical American build, you can button it and thread the belt through the buckle and the fit will be very flattering. If your body is more athletic, you can wrap it rather than button it, and tie the belt instead of buckling it. It'll emphasize your form and again will be very flattering.
The length of the coat is such that it makes anyone look taller. Just be sure to buy the correct length (i.e. Reg., Long, etc.) This is just a guess, but the BB store (or any tailor) can probably adjust the sleeves slightly if they are too long. Major alterations can't be done on these coats, and not just because of the cotton construction, so do get your correct size.

Hello Drew1,

Based on your waist measurement, an appropriate trouser size would be #BB3.

Have a great day!
