Comfortable and fashionable shoe
I was surprised to read reviews by men who apparently purchased this shoe and then found it uncomfortable. I won't purchase shoes that aren't comfortable when I try them on. That said, this shoe is oddly sized. I have been buying Brooks Brothers shoes for many years and was surprised that the size of this shoe that fit me was a half -size larger than all my other BB shoes. I tried my usual size in both my normal and a wider width, and both were tight. I think the reason for that is the padded insole, which adds comfort but takes up some additional space. In any case, I took the shoes on a recent vacation, walking in them quite comfortably nearly every day for long periods on old, often uneven cobblestone and other rugged services. I sprayed them with waterproofing before the trip and they stayed dry, even in heavy rain and puddles.

Still soaking feet!
This is an attractive shoe for business casual days. Unfortunately, despite its soles' appearance it did not hold up well to the weather western PA delivers. Also, the fit around the toes was very tight. And given a prior comment, a wider width does not seem to be the answer. Would avoid this shoe, even at discounted price.

Too narrow
A very nice shoe, but too narrow. I am a 9-D. Even the 9-E was too narrow.

Identical to Allen Edmonds "San Marco"
A beautiful shoe -- well made, and comfortable right out of the box. It appears to be identical to the Allen Edmonds "San Marco." I think it's the same shoe, with a Brooks Brothers label.

One of the reviewers notes that this shoe is "identical" to the Allen Edmonds San Marco. Can you confirm that this shoe is built on the same last as the AE San Marco? Thanks.

Answer:
A store manager at Allen Edmonds in Manhattan told me that AE does indeed make these shoes for Brooks Brothers on the AE San Marco last. She commented that sometimes Brooks Brothers requests slightly different specifications than the Allen Edmonds originals but that she believed these shoes were identical aside from the tiniest cosmetic differences. I own the BB version of these shoes and was wearing them in the AE store and could not tell the difference myself.9 months ago
