Answer:
The dress shirts are sized with separate lengths for the sleeve. The first number indicates the neck size, while the second number (usually in the 30s), indicates sleeve length (from shoulder, to wrist).
If you know your shirt size, you should not have a problem.

Yes, over the last 20 years I've gone from a 151/2, 35 to a 17, 36 sleeve. There is a proportional difference in the shirts.

Answer:
I am 6'2" and weigh 170. I would call myself tall and slim. The fit is great and the sleeves are proportional to the fit for a slim person. The slender sleeves and higher arm openings are quite flattering, and I have received a lot of compliments.
I had not experienced any shrinkage with these, but my most recent purchase shrunk a LOT. I will have to return it. I hope this does not mean they have switched things up and went with a lower quality fabric in the Supima shirts.

I have been a fan of and have worn these for years, so I know I am not mistaken. Also, I worked for Brooks Brothers in the 1980's when the shirt was truly like the original. Has Brooks Brothers considered looking into bringing the original collar back? It used to be about 1/4" longer with no fusing or bulk at all, same with the shirt cuffs. Plus, the first button placement on the placket was lower (although that change back to the original I could do without). It seems to me these shirts appeal to the very people who find these details important. Thank you for listening.

Answer:
The changes you are referring to actually took place before the current owners. The feeling was that unlined collars and cuffs looked sloppy. As for the button placement on the placket, that took place in late 80s/early 90s when Brooks moved from a six button placket to a seven button placket. As a result, the button spacing on the placket came slightly closer together (although the buttons still remain equidistant from each other on the placket which is very nice and very traditional). In terms of the collar length I have found that it can vary from season to season depending on the cutter in the factory (this was also confirmed to me by customer service when I inquired). For example, last season the collars definitely came in a little short, at around 3 and 1/4" (they are supposed to be 3 and 3/8"). This season however, every American made oxford cloth shirt I have purchased (5 in total) have been at least 3 and 3/8" in the collar, some even a bit longer which is fine because there is always a little bit of shrinkage. And while I agree that the unlined collar and cuffs look better and would like to see them return (the collar today is too bulky and does not look nearly as good with a tie as it used to), I have shopped around and tried other American made oxfords from different traditionalist stores and manufacturers, and I have to say that Brooks Brothers is still unequivocally the best American made oxford cloth button down shirt in the market today.

Answer:
The story goes that the new Italian owner thought that the collar (and cuffs too?) looked sloppy without a lining. I agree with you that the old style is much nicer. You can special order them without the lining, but you pay more.
I also miss all the old colors: peach, stone, helios, etc. And I think the old fabric was nicer too.
