Top Marks These shoes are made by Alden in Massachusetts. Not on the Barrie last, which is typically used for this style, but rather the M58 last which is exclusive to Brooks. It is a touch sleeker and dressier than the Barrie, and most people size down a half size just like for the Barrie. The Brooks version has metal eyelets and no storm welt, which I prefer. Shell leather is durable, lustrous, supple, and most scratches can just be polished away. It is a little miraculous. They can be restored by the Alden factory to as good as new for about $160. So you can use them freely and not worry about a local cobbler butchering them. Expensive yes, but they truly last a lifetime. August 1, 2012
Great shell Excellent shoe - I've had this model in the no. 8 shell for a few years and just bought the black. A very comfy, versatile shoe - wear with a suit or with jeans. It's made in the USA by Alden for BB. The welting and lace holes are different than the Alden Plain Toe Blucher on the Barrie last, but the fit is similar, so size down 1/2 for the correct fit. The other shell shoes should fit true-to-size. April 14, 2010

if that was case please teach me style of last, for example Barria last or similar last.

I would like to update my answer from about a year ago. The shoe is not made on the Barrie last; it is made on the M-58 last, according to Alden. The M-58 is a military last and is very similar to the Barrie last, except a sminch smaller in the toebox. The same advice holds: generally people go down a half a size.

This is an Alden PTB color #8 shell shoe, made on the Barrie last. The last runs half a size big.

The shell cordovan plain toe blucher is by Alden on the Barrie last, which fits 1/2 US size large - so if you normally wear a 10, buy a 9.5.
