Rated 5 out of 5 by Best loafers ever. I have them in both colors. I like them both, very versatile and extremely comfortable. The shell cordovan can make these loafers last decades. Enjoy them every week if you can! June 1, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Superb I had my last pair for twenty-seven years. Yes; you read that right. And the only reason they're not here is because I didn't take excellent care of them (re-soling them as soon as the sole began to deteriorate). Now it's time for my second pair (I'm 60 yrs old). The best cordovan loafers in the country. And the greatest looking, too. With or without socks, they are so comfortable. January 6, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by You MUST purchase these top notch cordovan shoes ! These Brooks Brothers Cordovan shoes are simply the #1 best value on the market. Even though they are more expensive, in my experience the cordovan horsehide leather will last 2-3 times longer than calfskin. Hence, the shoes are a great value since you'll spend less in the long run on replacement shoes. Besides being very durable, the leather is very supple, and conforms nicely to the shape of your feet for an extremely comfortable fit. Also the sheen of the leather is amazing. You can't go wrong with a pair of these shoes! June 26, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Favorite shoe You need to try them on in person, as I found shoes marked the same varied a bit in fit. But this is my favorite shoe and after 10 or so wearings they became like slippers. May 25, 2011

Answer:
Yes. That last runs big. Most people generally go down half a size, and especially for a loafer to prevent slippage.

Answer:
Yes, they are.
Maybe less snug (toe box) since these are unlined.

Answer:
The upper is unlined, which means it's probably less expensive to construct, but also that it conforms much better to your feet than lined loafers. Unlike lace-ups, loafers are less accomodating to the unique shape of every foot, so I find this an important quality. I also have a pair of - lined - Allen Edmonds cordovan Randolph loafers which still feel stiff after several months of wear. More subjectively, I do not like a box fresh look, and the unlined loafers take on a more pedigreed appearance faster than the stiffer lined ones.

Answer:
I believe that this means that the interior (that touches your foot) is not lined (or covered) with another piece of leather (like most shoes). I think this is to make these shoes more comfortable and flexible, because they are loafers. Dressier shoes generally have a stiffer, more solid construction, with that additional leather lining, to make them look neater, or dressier. These are extremely comfortable.

Answer:
Unlined means that there is no lining (made of calf skin) sewn to the inside of the shoe. Most shoes do have a lining, but the strength of the cordovan leather allows its deletion.

It could have a lining. In fact the versions of this Alden shoe sold elsewhere do have a lining. Why none for Brooks? It makes the shoe a little softer, more pliable, and cooler. Better for not wearing socks also.

Answer:
The front shoe box is one layer of cordovan leather without an underlining. The sole is lined like every other shoe.

I usually wear a size 8.5D and the black set of these shoes only comes in 8.5E; would it be wise to order the E's?

Answer:
Hello, thank you for your inquiry into our Cordovan Unlined Penny Loafers. A "D width" is average, properly fitting most people, whereas an "E width" is a bit wider.

We do hope this information is helpful.
Kind regards,
