Rated 5 out of 5 by You MUST purchase these top notch cordovan shoes ! These Brooks Brothers Cordovan shoes are simply the #1 best value on the market. Even though they are more expensive, in my experience the cordovan horsehide leather will last 2-3 times longer than calfskin. Hence, the shoes are a great value since you'll spend less in the long run on replacement shoes. Besides being very durable, the leather is very supple, and conforms nicely to the shape of your feet for an extremely comfortable fit. Also the sheen of the leather is amazing. You can't go wrong with a pair of these shoes! June 26, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Cordovan Unlined Penny Loafer The shoe I wanted in college, and at long last actually own. Worth the wait. October 3, 2009
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Classic Casual Shoe Fit is right on with other American-made shoes. Good room in the toebox and just snug enough to ensure the leather will mold to my foot. Excellent quality leather and sturdy but not too clunky sole. Burgundy color goes great with my khakis and jeans. Strongly recommend. December 26, 2009
Rated 5 out of 5 by Superb I had my last pair for twenty-seven years. Yes; you read that right. And the only reason they're not here is because I didn't take excellent care of them (re-soling them as soon as the sole began to deteriorate). Now it's time for my second pair (I'm 60 yrs old). The best cordovan loafers in the country. And the greatest looking, too. With or without socks, they are so comfortable. January 6, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Tremendous I have been wearing these shoes (not the same pair) since the mid 1980's. They are great-- this Brooks version of the Alden shoe is unlined, which makes them very soft and cool. The Van last runs big. I go down a full size; most just go down half a size. Plus now there are some available in whiskey shell from the Madison Ave. store. September 3, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by After a Long Search I have tried lots of shoes at this price range and above. It all starts with the last. This shoe is slightly wider in the forefoot than the Alden Cordovan loafer. It is also quite a bit lighter without giving up durability. There is a good balance in terms of breathability and protection. Unlike Italian loafers, you will not feel the cold sidewalk through the soles. The shoe takes a moderate amount of breaking in, but once broken in, so long as it is the right last for your foot, it is an absolute pleasure to wear. I walk several miles per day around my city and these shoes show little wear in the sole and have held up unlike any shoe this comfortable that I have worn. If the Alden Cordovan is too narrow in the forefoot, this shoe will fit you wonderfully. October 20, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic Shoes These are some of the most comfortable shoes I have ever purchased. I found the shoes to run approximately a half size large. The vamp of the shoe can be a bit tight at first but after a few wearings, molds to your foot. I only wish Brooks Brothers carried these shoes in additional colors of shell cordovan! July 22, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Longtermcustomer Very well made shoe that is highly recommended by my shoe repair man. In reality, it is a re-labeled Alden shoe that is well respected and regarded among those who know shoes. April 16, 2011

Answer:
Yes. That last runs big. Most people generally go down half a size, and especially for a loafer to prevent slippage.

Answer:
Yes, they are.
Maybe less snug (toe box) since these are unlined.

Answer:
The upper is unlined, which means it's probably less expensive to construct, but also that it conforms much better to your feet than lined loafers. Unlike lace-ups, loafers are less accomodating to the unique shape of every foot, so I find this an important quality. I also have a pair of - lined - Allen Edmonds cordovan Randolph loafers which still feel stiff after several months of wear. More subjectively, I do not like a box fresh look, and the unlined loafers take on a more pedigreed appearance faster than the stiffer lined ones.

Answer:
I believe that this means that the interior (that touches your foot) is not lined (or covered) with another piece of leather (like most shoes). I think this is to make these shoes more comfortable and flexible, because they are loafers. Dressier shoes generally have a stiffer, more solid construction, with that additional leather lining, to make them look neater, or dressier. These are extremely comfortable.

Answer:
Unlined means that there is no lining (made of calf skin) sewn to the inside of the shoe. Most shoes do have a lining, but the strength of the cordovan leather allows its deletion.

It could have a lining. In fact the versions of this Alden shoe sold elsewhere do have a lining. Why none for Brooks? It makes the shoe a little softer, more pliable, and cooler. Better for not wearing socks also.

Answer:
The front shoe box is one layer of cordovan leather without an underlining. The sole is lined like every other shoe.

I usually wear a size 8.5D and the black set of these shoes only comes in 8.5E; would it be wise to order the E's?

Answer:
Hello, thank you for your inquiry into our Cordovan Unlined Penny Loafers. A "D width" is average, properly fitting most people, whereas an "E width" is a bit wider.

We do hope this information is helpful.

These penny loafers fit true to size and we suggest complementing them with thinner socks (or forgoing them completely) - so we feel comfortable suggesting a size 9.

I have 1 pair of this shoes Burgundy color.
It's size 7 B/D (writing B, D together)

Is this shoes 7B same to 7 B/D ?

Alden shoes always write Width size A/C or B/D or E .

I want to buy normal width.
How do I choose size?

7B or 7D ?
