Rated 5 out of 5 by A great, classic, double-brested trench coat This is a classic cut and fit and is a classic piece that every gentleman should have in his wardrobe. When temperatures drop below zero, an overcoat is more appropriate. However, the rest of the year, this coat fits the bill. The wool liner and collar can be removed to be used as a summer raincoat and installed for those spring and fall showers. The coat is well put together and the cotton tends to resist wrinkles. There are a lot of buttons to secure the liner and collar and you have to admire the handiwork. The liner is made of cashmere and wool. The inside of the coat has a very attractive brown and navy check pattern that is beautiful but not as flashy as a certain brand know for its trenches. The coat is a straight-fitting coat and I am a slimmer 44, so the belt is always used. I only wish they had made the coat a slimmer fit. The shoulders fit me perfectly over a jacket. Overall, this is a great quality coat with classic good looks and it is a great value over the competition. January 10, 2011
Rated 1 out of 5 by Can't believe this is a Brooks Brothers item Wow, this is not the quality I would expect from Brooks Brothers. The material feels nice, but it came damaged (looks like it was abraded, with some shiny scrape marks. The fit is odd, being very tight in the upper arms, binding in the middle of the upper arm (and my arms aren't that big). The rifle flap is tiny, looking like someone was trying to save money by saving material, and also looks out of proportion. It is also useless as a rain flap, since it has to button under the main flap. I showed it to my father, who has the currently unavailable more expensive BB double breasted trench, and his first reaction was that I'd bought a coat at a discount store, because the appearance was extremely cheap. Hopefully this coat is being redesigned. Also wish it was longer, as I'm only 5'7" and this comes only to my knees, not mid-calf as I would expect from a full trench. January 5, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by High quality classic raincoat is a fantastic value I purchased this trench coat about 12 months ago and couldn't be happier with it. The quality of the workmanship is excellent - this includes the very attractive plaid inner material, the wool/cashmere removable liner, the removable collar, the buttons, among other features. The best part is that the removable liner allows this coat to be worn year-round. I used to own the same coat manufactured by another famous brand known for raincoats, and the BB version is nearly comparable on quality, but costs much, much less. This trench coat is a great value ! September 25, 2011
Rated 4 out of 5 by Nice coat Very nice trench coat; A little generous through the middle, though; Good finish and attention to detail. January 16, 2012

I take a 42 Long in a sport coat. Would I take the same size in the Double breasted trench coat?

Answer:
I'd go with a size 44 Long in this coat, due to the heft of the button-in liner. You don't want a trench coat to be so tight it restricts your movement. I ordered a 50 long (my jacket size is 48 Long) and the fit is perfect.

It looks a little shorter than the full length overcoats. Dies it go below the knee?

Answer:
Yes, it goes below the knee, but is slightly shorter than the Burberry's I wore 20 years ago. Order a size larger due to the bulk of the button-in liner.

Answer:
The length has been updated. It is around 38-40” from center back length. It is still a classic, traditional length.

Buy your suit size. Wearing a jacket underneath is taken into consideration.

Answer:
Hello,

Both suggestions are credible. Fit is subjective to the wearer. As the manufacturer and retailer, we would recommend getting an overcoat that is the same size as your suit or sport jacket. However, you may prefer a loose fit, based on level of comfort, and go up a size.

Answer:
Other than perhaps shortening the sleeves, the trench coat isn't meant to be altered. If the shoulders fit, it's still the correct size. Wear a heavier layer underneath, or cinch the belt tighter. Or, both.
