The fit is terrible if you are full figured...
I just got two pair of these pants delivered, after I ordered them online. Like everyone else, I found the rise to be too short and the seat to be too tight. Too bad - I love Brooks Brothers, but not these pants.

Horrible Cut
I have been a Madison 34/30 for years. I do not live near an BrooksBrothers store and mostly need to order online. For years, I have been able to order my suits, dress paints and shirts without needing to worry about the fit or size. These paints fit nothing like a Madison 34/30, they have a high rise and the waist was inconsistent in the two pairs I ordered.

Too Small In Rise And Seat
The pants I received in Feb-2013 had too short of a rise, and were too small in the seat area.
I don't believe that I have an unusual body type: I'm 6 ft 3 in tall, and I weigh about 215 lb. For decades, I've been able to easily find pants that fit me; not just from Brooks Brothers-- although I've bought clothing from Brooks Brothers for over 20 years.
In fact, about 5 years ago at a Brooks Brothers store, I bought 2 pairs of pants very similar to these, and neither pair needed alterations of any kind-- not even hemming. Each of the pants was size 42 waist and size 34 inseam. The pants were made in Canada.
The pants I ordered recently were size 42, with an unfinished inseam, and were made in Thailand. Even before I tried on the pants, the rise appeared unusually short to me; and sure enough, when I tried them on, I saw that the rise was unusually short, and they were very tight in the seat area. They fit fine in the waist.
Worst of all, after taking the pants off, I saw that the factory left essentially no extra fabric in the rise or seat area, so it would be impossible for a tailor to let them out in those areas.
I'm pretty disappointed. I believe Brooks Brothers should once again tailor the fit of its dress pants so that when a customer with an average build orders a pair, the pants will fit in the rise and seat area; not just in the waist. Brooks Brothers should not tailor its dress pants so that they'll only fit anorectic male fashion models.

"If it ain't broke..." Well, they broke it.
These pants were once a staple of my wardrobe. No longer. I purchase clothes from Brooks Brothers because they generally sell quality products. I used to purchase these particular pants because they fit. Now, they don't fit. I do not want to have to try on 10 new pairs of pants each time I need new pants. I simply want to buy what worked for me in the past. For reasons I cannot guess at, Brooks Brothers recently made significant changes to these pants. They decreased the rise to the point that the crotch is much too short and very uncomfortable. In doing so, they took a pair of pants that worked very well for me, and which I would buy over and over, and they ruined them. I must now look elsewhere for pants that fit. Hopefully, whichever manufacturer I find whose pants fit like these pants used to fit, will understand their customers well enough not to risk ruining a good product by radically changing something that is perfectly workable exactly the way it is. Brooks Brothers is not what is was.
Bottom line: if you are buying these pants based on an older pair that fit, DON'T. You will be disappointed.

If you look at my comments, you'd know I've railed against these pants for the past year. However, I went just this week to try on the pants again to give them one last try, told the sales person about the "old" fit vs. "new" fit, and he confirmed they went back to the "old" fit with longer rise. I tried on several pairs in different colors and can confirm that the rise is certainly longer and the pants fit much more comfortably. If possible, I would recommend going to a store and trying them on before purchasing online though.1 year, 2 months ago

No! Actually, Brooks Brothers has realized that their switching of fit of the pants caused such anguish that they have gone back to the OLD fit. So these are the normal, long-rise Gabardine Trousers of old.I've had quite lenghty conversations with one of their excellent customer service representatives since they made the switch and he informed me today that these are the old fit.

It seems like there isn't clear direction on whether or not the Madison fit slacks have returned to the "old" i.e. roomier cut. Can someone from BB please confirm? Given the majority of negative reviews on the "new" cut, when can we expect a return of the previous cut that most everyone seems to want?

In the past (for example, just 5 years ago), every pair of Brooks Brothers pants that I tried on would fit me just fine in the rise and seat areas, if they fit in the waist.

I tried on the Madison fit slacks in every color last summer, fall, and again in December. As of then, they remain the trim, high rise fit. I will give them one more chance in the coming weeks. Considering every customer rep has been telling me for 8 months now that they've abandoned the "new" fit, if the slacks I try on then are not the "old" fit, I will not be coming back to BB for dress pants.Just for the record, and I can't explain it, the black and charcoal colors have a low rise and looser fit. This was the case when I bought one pair in every color back in May. I tried on the black, thought the fit was excellent, purchased the remaining colors, and was shocked to find that charcoal was the only other remotely comfortable color. The massive disparity in cut depending on color was and is very odd.

For our dress shirts, we recommend the Traditional fit, it is our largest and has plenty of room through the chest and shoulders.We do hope this information is helpful.
