While I always considered the shawl collar to be an equally (if not more) formal tuxedo option as compared to the peaked lapel, I came across one source claiming that it was LESS formal. Any input on this? I would like to wear this for my wedding, so would like to be certain that it is viewed as appropriate for the occasion.

The collar on a tuxedo jacket is primarily a matter of personal preference. After your collar choice, the fact remains that it is a formal black tuxedo jacket. That makes it most appropriate for wedding use. Some may consider both notched and shawl collars as "less formal" than peak lapels for no more reason than the fact that a "tails" jacket also has peak lapels and that "white tie" is more formal than "black tie", therefor peak lapels are more formal than others. This poor extension of logic should not interfere with your personal choice of formal wear for your wedding. Relax and let the "fashion police" take a day off; it's your day. Best wishes.

Strictly speaking, the shawl collar is considered less formal. It is derived from the smoking jacket. The peaked lapel is derived from the morning jacket, which is strictly speaking more formal. I think that the difference is a matter of degree. Appropriateness in today's world is a matter of time of day, time of year, location, and maybe ultimately the opinion of the bride. My bride decided white tie was going to be the choice which made it straight forward for me...

Your combination noted is my personal preference as the textures of the faille tie/cummerbund combination provide a bit of a contrast to the smooth satin lapels of the jacket. In many cases the "shade of black" and sheen level in the lapels is somewhat different from the black and sheen in the tie and cummerbund set. The texture contrast of faille to satin is not unlike that in a "tails jacket" with satin lapels and the pique finish of a white tie and vest worn with it.

I did not find odd sizes. If you are normally a regular, but in good shape and less than 5'10", I would go down a size and get the short.
