I recently inherited a set in gold, but I am having difficulty removing the tarnish. I tried dish-soap and water to no effect. I haven't tried silver polish from fear of removing the gold plate. What should I use to clean and remove the tarnish from my set?

Answer:
Hello, thank you for your inquiry. For the cleaning of gold-plated jewelry, we have heard of people using baking soda or toothpaste and a toothbrush. The brush is small enough to clean between hard-to-reach areas and the baking soda or toothpaste is mild enough to not ruin the gold. Once you are done with the scrubbing, you should rinse them with a damp cloth. You may see some discoloration on the cloth but that is merely the dirt coming off. Lastly, you may buff the links with a dry cloth for shine. We do advise testing this process on a small portion in case the links do not respond well.

We do hope this information is helpful. Best of luck.
