The cream does a great job at moisturizing the leather to keep it supple over the years. I use it once a week on all my black shoes. Apply with a towel, wait till dry, then buff off. Answer: 
The color of the shoe tree does not affect the color of the shoe. There is no dye or paint on the trees. The cedar is very dry and I have never seen sap from a (quality) shoe tree
