Proportions are spot on and only wish they offered an extra slim for us more trim youthful folk but regardless one the best investments I've made this year. My new go to shirt for black tie. Note: When I first purchased this shirt I overlooked the fact it was back ordered and distressed to think that I wouldn't have it on time for a ball/black tie event. So I gave customer service a jingle and they found a store with it in stock, manager personally called me and had it shipped off right away. Amazing. June 6, 2012

Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic Shirt! This is a fantastic shirt for any black tie occasion. The slim fit was large on me, I'm 6'2" / 177lbs. and it was still blousy (normal for Brooks shirts). I had my tailor take the shirt in from the back and it fit like a glove. The sleeves were perfect and did not need altering in length or under the arms. I paired it with the Brooks Brothers "Pique Self-Tie Bow Tie" for my wedding. The bibbing adds a touch of extra formalness to the shirt and looks great with a black tuxedo (tails or no tails). The collar looks perfect with a bow tie or neck tie for any evening event! July 6, 2011

It really depends on the specification of your tuxedo jacket. You should wear a cummerbund if your jacket features shawl lapel, but a waistcoat if your jacket has peak lapels.

A cummerbund provides an elegant and classic transition from the shirt to pants. It also has the effect of trimming your wise-line, aka no shirt balloon, and draws the eye upward giving a well structured and elongated figure. Finally when you have your jacket one buttoned as it should be, it hides the white of the shirt that would normally show through the unbuttoned bottom half.

So no you do have to but I would highly recommend it.

Traditionally, cummerbund is worn with a tuxedo shirt. However, another option is wearing a vest.

No, they are removable mother of pearl buttons (they detach in the back). The studs you need to purchase extra.

It appears from the description that this shirt can go both ways. It has button strip to cover the four stud holes if you want a full button front. If you want traditional studs, the collar has a button, then four stud holes are opened by removing the button strip, then moving down again to buttons from the waist to the shirt tail.

Yes, Brooks Brothers has a non iron tuxedo shirt. My husband has two and likes them very much. I think they are about the only company who has such an item. I was glad to get it since my husband is in the habit of letting me know he needs a clean tux shirt when it is too late to get it professionally laundered. This comes out of the dryer looking pristine.

No. Tuxedo shirts are meant to be neatly pressed. A non-iron formal shirt is an oxymoron.

English spread. London (aka "point") collars don't work for tuxedos as they break up the clean triangle formed by the bowtie and jacket lapels.

I just wore this shirt for my wedding and would have to say it's more of a Londoner, though it's VERY hard to tell the difference. It has an elegant wide spread without being to flashy for a formal tuxedo shirt.

The bib extends to the 6th button, which takes it below the waistline. Buttons 5 and 6 are not removable.

Depends on your definition of skinny. I wore a midnight/dark navy blue tie that was skinny 2.25 inches and it looked amazing. Complements all night. Just make sure the tie is thick enough that it makes a decent knot that will be in proper proportion for the collar.

I see that it is picture with studs, so I assume the shirt pictured has already had the strip removed? I also assume that the removal of such a strip is one that might require the work of a tailor?

Not at all. The mother of pearl "strip" is buttons affixed to fabric and comes off as one piece so you can choose either the pearl or your own studs. No tailor required.
