Hello, thank you for your inquiry. The best way to explain the difference between the fits of our Stripe Smoking Jacket and a pajama top is that the smoking jacket is more akin to a bathrobe, it may be worn over a dress shirt or pajama top as an added layer. It has a belt that may be drawn over the middle so it is quite full around. Conversely, a button-down pajama top fits similar to a loose-fitting dress shirt and may be worn as a layer underneath.
