Rated 4 out of 5 by Great in White-colored shirts fade at collar & tip Pro-these shirts fit. I am 5' 9" and now weigh 195--down from 270 (deliberate diet). I have a barrel chest-now 44" down from 50", a 42" waist (down from 54"), a 16" neck (down from 18") and a 33" sleeve (down from 34"). At my heaviest, a Traditional fit 18 1/2" by 34" fit perfectly. Now a 16" x 33" fits perfectly again. The salesman at the BB store in my city, who's been selling me shirts for years, advised I stick with traditional fit since my chest is still a big barrel chest, although smaller than before. I have several of these traditional-fit collars in white and various colors (primarily light blue), They fit well, and I especially like the sleeve lengths in increments of one inch. (When my arms become adjustable to 34-35, or 33-32; THEN I may briefly think about the shirts you can get from virtually ever other manufacturers!). The only issue I have is with the colored shirts (I get mainly light blue). The bend of the collar seems to wear out and I am left with a frayed band of white right around the junction of my neck and the collar. Also, the colored shirts fray at the points of the color, leaving them white-tipped. But they fit! Which is far more than I can say for any other brand. August 16, 2012

They're fine if you take them to the dry cleaner, but the collar tips turn brown if you put them through the home laundry. I threw away the first one when this happened, then bought another a few months later. And now I'm having exactly the same problem again. They're fine shirts, but they're unwearable once the collar tips turn brown -- and there seems to be no way to get the brown out. Very happy with other Brooks Brothers products, but this one is a real disappointment. February 16, 2012

Yes id does. While it didn't come with extra collar stays you can purchase some from Brooks Brothers in both plastic and metal.

It comes with plastic stays that are perfectly functional and will take brass stays if you prefer.

No--white is white, ecru is more of a cream color. They are not the same. Ecru does fade a bit over time (at least in all-cotton traditional fir oxford cloth), but it will never be the dazzling white of the white shirt.

No, in my experience white is totally different from ecru. If you look at the two in bright sunlight, you can see there is some difference. The ecru will have a definite yellow/tan cast to it, which, although it may be slight, will show up against a stark white. As for wearing, I often interchange the two, unless I am matching a pattern that has a definite white (or conversely, ecru) stripe/plaid in it.

No. While Ecru, like other colors in the same range such as tan or beige, can vary in shading it is primarily an "off-white". It is not unlike ivory...and is not the brilliant white that you will find in...well, a white shirt. It could also be called light stone or very light khaki and is a neutrel color that looks good with a very wide range of colors from olive to gray to navy. It will goe with most things that white will go with...but presents a "softer" and "warmer" look than crisp white.

No. Ecru originally referred to unbleached "white" fabrics, which were typically off-white, running to yellow and beige. Most ecru shirts today fall somewhere around the midpoint of yellow/beige/cream.

I just wash them in warm water with Tide on regular wash; dry them in the dryer and hang them up. If they look wrinkled, they will loose the wrinkles when your husband puts them on. I never use the dry cleaners anymore and my husband always looks sharp.

I was told by a sales associate that they actually do best when you just wash them at home. Drycleaning tends to mess up the non-iron quality. It also saves a lot of money! I recommend a Miele washer and dryer and they come out hanger ready!

cold water, woolite (not as hard on shirts as tide or other products are). Remove immediately when drier is finsihed or shirt will become wrinkled. DO NOT DRY CLEAN. Waste of money if shirt is non iron.

For our non-iron shirts we advise against dry cleaning.

Machine wash warm, use only non chlorine bleach, tumble dry low and remove promptly and hang.

The best way to determine what looks best on you is to to try a shirt. If it doesn't feel good/look good on you, you can always return it. Brooks Brothers has an excellent customer service. But generally, the best cut will depend on your built. If you are a regular size man with wide shoulders and of average height and weight, go with he traditional fit. It has a comfortable, not form fitting cut with plenty of room to move. The slim cut is more form fitting and hugs the body more. If you have a slim built and like to show it off, go with the slim cut.

I think it really depends on your body type. For myself, 5 foot eight, 32 waist and size 40 jacket, I generally now only buy the slim-fit dress shirts from Brooks. For me the "traditional" have too much excess fabric in the back and at day's end look like I'm "blowing up."

If you are slim and prefer more fitted shirts, buy the slim cut. I like my shirts loose and therefore buy the traditional cut.

They are not as heavy as an oxford but certainly more weighty than linen or silk. However, if you do opt for white, it is likely you will see the outline of your undershirt, particularly if it is a darker color.
