Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect Semi-Formal Tie I wear it to the symphony when a tux is overdressing but I still want to look a step above 'business formal'. It is perfect with a medium grey suit. The quality is superb in all respects. October 31, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by HIGH CLASS This tie looks the part it was intended. High class all the way. Beautiful material, knots great. February 5, 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Beautiful Fabric The fabric of this tie is very high quality and is representative of what you would expect from Brooks Brothers for formal wear. It looks great and is long enough that you can manage a variety of knots depending upon collar style. September 15, 2010
Rated 1 out of 5 by No There is a reason classic is classic and this is not it. This is for the person who is afraid to dress for the occasion. Add this to your notch lapel dinner suit and it looks just like another suit. August 10, 2010

Answer:
Yes, in fact you should NOT wear this tie with a tuxedo. Tuxedo: black bow tie. Nothing else.

However, this tie would look better with a gray suit, because the black silk of the tie won't match the black wool of a suit. And because black suits make you look like a funeral director or usher.

Answer:
The tie looks great with a black suit. If you are going to a black tie event where everyone will be in more traditional tuxes with straight black ties, this may be a bit bright, but it will definitely stand out and looks great with a black suit.

The grey satin, if you're seeking a very formal look. The burgundy will tone it down.

This is a matter of style preference, of course. Burgundy is always a classic choice.
