Rated 5 out of 5 by Classy Beautiful pair of shoes. They look great with jeans and are extremely comfortable. Had to exchange them for a larger size, be prepared for compliments. January 20, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Heaven for your feet These slippers are the best I ever owned. I work from home and slippers are my primary kind of footwear so the comfort is very important and they do provide the best comfort I can wish for. The appearance is outstanding, they look simply stunning. The materials selected for the slippers are the best in appearance and feel. The velvet is very good looking and durable. My dog stepped on the slippers and left positively no scratch or tear. As a matter of fact I have three pairs so I can rotate them as I did with my other shoes. And I admit, I bought three more pairs because I can not think of any other house footwear that may possibly compete with these. January 5, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Amazing product, bad fit I wanted to love this shoe, but it was just way too big. The quality is great and it looks so much better in person than online. But I had to return it because it was at least a size and a half too large. I am a size 7/7.5, so there is no smaller size that I can buy. July 27, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Beautiful ! Wore these shoes to the Christmas Eve service at the National Cathedral.Got many complement, aven the Bishop of Washington was loving the slippers !! Now wearing them even with jeans !! GREAT LOOKING !! January 14, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great I ordered this shoe on 12/31/11 and got it about 5 days later. I haven't worn this shoe out yet but I'm sure that I'm going to get alot of compliments on this shoe. I usually wear size 10, but there was non available when I ordered it, so I chose size 9 1/2. The size 9.5 i chose is really tight but I love this shoe so much that I wont mind wearing it like that and hope it will expand as time goes on. The quality could be a bit better but lovely shoe though. January 8, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love Them Bought them today. They fit true to size and look great. These are going to really fun to wear! January 13, 2012

Answer:
They are modelled on the Prince Albert slipper which was used by English gentlemen to walk short distances between home and waiting cabs, or to local grocery stores, pubs, theatre, Opera house etc.

They are basically worn when you take your shoes off but you are not ready for your bedroom slippers, they are between a shoe and a bedroom slipper.

Traditionally a gentleman would wear his shoes during the day, return home to change into his slippers. If he planned to stay at home he would use his bedroom slippers, but if he planned to dine out he wore his "Prince Alberts" or "pumps" to Dinner or to the Opera or theatre.

After a hard day in your shoes a gentleman wants to "slip into something a little more comfortable", the Prince Albert was the answer if he had any social engagements to attend.

I work from home and wear them all day and they are very comfortable. Just like you said, nothing fancy, plain comfort and good look.

Answer:
They can be worn for that purpose (formal parties held at home), but velvet slippers are chiefly black-tie footwear; to be worn with a tuxedo.

They run true to size, but I find the 1/2 size bigger is a comfortable fit and will not fall off my foot.

Answer:
Anyone who understands the protocols of formal dinner wear will understand that the slipper is actually the correct thing to wear and that the leather shoe, albeit patent leather, is not actually the correct protocol.

The Velvet slipper, especially the Edwardian, is absolutely the correct and appropriate thing to wear.

Answer:
As my 6' 4" cousin, Bubba (not a nickname), once said to me when I was an early teen, "Boy, real men wear pink, and eat quiche." If you grasp what he was saying, you needn't ask the question. Nonetheless, I sh'll answer it: a categorical YES, unless you are insecure about your masculinity.

I realize this question seems to have been asked and answered, but are these black or navy? Item description says black, but depending on which monitor I view them on, they could be black or dark navy.

If you go up a size then the issue would be length. In addition, it would not solve the issue with your feet width.
