sizing issue
I purchased this shoe in black shell from a BB retailer. The order was placed by phone and I received the shoes via Fed Ex. I was trying to decide between this shoe (made by Alden) and Alden's black shell 2161 captoe blucher. They are more or less the same shoe, with only slight differences. Alden is the master of shell cordovan.
This shoe is made on Alden's Snap last; the 2161 is made on Alden's Aberdeen last. I ordered 9 D (i.e., Alden's 9 B/D) in each shoe. The fit of this shoe was noticeably smaller than the 2161. It was simply too short (I would have needed a 9.5 D). This surprised me as I had been told to expect little difference between the sizing of the two lasts. Moreover, I wear 9 D in various Alden models with various lasts, so this was somewhat troubling in terms of purchasing, in the future, an Alden for BB shoe. They were returned to the retailer and I received a prompt refund. I kept the 2161.
I would heartily recommend that BB list the Alden last each of their Alden for BB shoes is made on - and perhaps a description of said last. For the seasoned Alden buyer, the type of last can make all the difference.

Great Shoes
I'm not generally a fan of blucher style shoes, but I wanted a pair of somewhat casual shell corodovan shoes to go with khakis. These shoes have proven to be among the most comfortable that I own and have become great favorites. Though not my personal preference, the shoe style is versatile enough to be worn with suits - at least, I have seen it done. I prefer it for more casual wear and it has been an execellent shoe.

Fantastic Quality and Fit
The shoes make the outfit. A good pair of shoes can be more important than the clothes you wear with it. Why wear nice dress clothes to pair it with frumpy dull shoes? These shoes shine like no other dress shoe I have owned. These are expensive, but the quality has been worth it. The leather is soft and smells so good. The classic styling works well for a more traditional 2 button suit or more stylish 3 button suit. I would recommend these shoes to anyone looking for a classic American dress shoe.

Answer:
C, D, and E are in respect to the width of the shoe. Most men fit a D witdh as it is the most popular width with Brooks Brothers (Alden) shoes. The increments of width bewteen C, D, and E are about 3/16 of an inch, if i remember correctly. However, I'd get my feet sized on the Brannock device before I buy a shoe online.2 years, 3 months ago

Answer:
The difference is completely in width and is measured in circumference so it’s hard to translate to a difference in footbed dimension. You often hear 3/16 of an inch being the difference in footbed width between one letter size for a fixed length. The narrower width will have a shorter toe box as well due to the circumference measurement.A reasonable rule of thumb is that a 10.5C will be similar in width to a 10D, while a 10.5E will be similar to an 11D. It’s probably not exact but it will give you an approximate idea
