Brooks Brothers & Make-A-Wish
Brooks Brothers is pleased to partner with Make-A-Wish for our 17th year. By supporting the efforts of this renowned organization, we happily assist in granting children’s wishes during the most difficult times in their young lives. Each donation will get a child closer to his or her very own memorable moment or unforgettable experience. We are especially pleased to participate with World Wish Day®, on April 29, 2017. This marks the anniversary of the very first wish granted by Make-A-Wish. By contributing funds or even air miles at any time, donors become the supporting characters in these triumphant, heartwarming stories. To learn more about Make-A-Wish, visit wish.org.
Stories of Wish-Making
patient storiesI Wish to have a horseback riding lessonWish kid Dakota sometimes feels lonely and misunderstood. But she’s able to find comfort through bonding with her brother, who has the same blood disorder. Her wish provides another escape from her medical condition—and it shows her that so much is still possible in her life. Growing up in a city, Dakota wasn’t able to have the pet she most desired: a horse. Make-A-Wish helped her realize her wish by arranging horseback riding lessons for her. Riding makes her feel happy and free. She’s able to forget her pain and treatments for a little while and enjoy feeling like a normal kid again.
patient storiesI Wish to be a paleontologist.Wish kid Luis has always wanted to be a paleontologist. He can name all the different types of prehistoric dinosaurs without hesitation. If there's one thing he vividly remembers, it’s his first visit to a museum. Walking in the shadows of the museum’s dinosaur halls, Luis was frightened—yet even in a museum filled with scary-looking dinosaurs, he yearned to do one thing; dig for bones. Bertha, his mother, believes that granting Luis his lifetime wish will motivate him to do well in school. Luis’ wish granters Patti and Gaylen, said the 12-year old’s scientific passion and knowledge are clearly part of who he is. And right now, Luis is ready to start digging.
patient storiesI wish to be a cowgirl.Six years old Kionna was inspired to want to be a cowgirl by her favorite television show. Kionna loves the show because her favorite character always saves the day. She was diagnosed with Wilms’ tumor, a rare form of kidney cancer, but is currently in remission. Her wish came true at Heaven’s Gate Farm in Monroe, Georgia. While on her wish, Kionna wanted to ride a white horse, lasso a magic treasure chest and hold live animals, including a chicken. The facility and almost all other aspects of the wish were donated in-kind to Make-A-Wish® Georgia by the local community who rallied to make Kionna’s wish come true.
patient storiesI Wish to be a ballerina.Mahlia had always loved playing with her brothers and being active. She especially loved dancing. When she stopped being the bright and bubbly child that her family knew, her mother became worried. Shortly thereafter, she was diagnosed. A journey of treatments and hospital stays awaited her. Dancing gives Mahlia an opportunity to forget about her illness for a while and let her be a kid again. She dances around her house and sees herself as a ballerina. Despite her lack of professional training, Make-A-Wish® knew that Mahlia’s wish—to be a ballerina—had to come true.
patient storiesI Wish to see snow.Growing up in Maui, Kenny is a long way from the snow-covered slopes of the High Sierras. Because of his medical condition, Kenny’s wish will signal the true start of hope...and a moment in time he and his family will cherish forever. For a boy who has never seen snow, a trip to Tahoe during the winter will be the experience of a lifetime. Imagine Kenny’s rush of excitement when he and his family arrive at Tahoe and walk along the endless blanket of snow for the first time. This is what Kenny has dreamed about for his whole life. This is also freedom—freedom from having cancer—and a new lease on life.
