In keeping with the philosophy created at the inception of Black Fleece, Thom Browne, the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) Menswear Designer of the Year award recipient and Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award finalist, continues to draw from the iconic American sensibility of Brooks Brothers for the Fall/Winter 2009 Black Fleece collection.

While Browne has become known for his exaggerated silhouettes and forward designs for his own collection, he has created a fresh new silhouette for Black Fleece, keeping aligned with the Brooks Brothers identity. For Fall 2008, Browne has interpreted some of the referential shapes taken from the Brooks Brothers archives, such as the Sack Suit, the Eaton jacket, the toggle coat, the double breasted Chesterfield coat, Rep stripe patch pocket jacket, the shirt jacket and the poncho. For women, the back box pleated skirt and cape dresses were added as new silhouettes.

The fabrics include cashmere Madras plaid found in the archives that were reproduced exclusively for this collection. Others are thornproof wool, flannels, wool herringbone, worsted wool with silk organza overlay, cashmere argyle knit and camel hair, made in familiar colors of grey, charcoal grey, navy, camel and blue.

The range of accessories include: wingtip shoes in pebble grain and Cordovan leather, kilt Oxford shoes in pebble leather, saddle shoes in buck and Cordovan leather, Paddock and perforated boots in pebble grain leather.
