Meet This Year’s
Wish Kids

  • I wish to meet a unicorn
    Charlotte, 5
    blood disorder

Once Charlotte arrived in the “magical woods,” she was asked to sit and close her eyes. From behind the trees, Bam Bam the unicorn walked out with his fairy. Charlotte opened her eyes and, through her disbelief, pet, rode and fed Bam Bam carrots and apples all morning before being invited for lunch in the Ritz-Carlton Members Club. When Charlotte met her unicorn, she was swept far away from hospital visits and medical procedures. She was no longer thinking about her illness; she was a joyful princess in her own fairy tale. Charlotte was experiencing life beyond her illness, and seeing the impossible as possible.

  • I wish to be a chef
    Dyani, 6
    leukemia

Dyani has always loved to cook. So when her leukemia treatment stole her
appetite, some of her joy disappeared too. She often had to cut her food into
tiny pieces to even stomach a meal. Dyani’s one true wish was to be a chef. So
Make-A-Wish® invited her to cook a selection of bite-sized treats for her family
and friends at her very own culinary event, “An Evening of Eggcellence,” held at
Knoxville’s 2015 Top Chef’s Gourmet Market and Café. At her event, Dyani was
no longer a girl battling leukemia. She was a celebrity chef with newfound
strength and joy. That’s the power of a wish.

  • I wish to visit a dude ranch
    Cody, 8
    blood disorder

When Cody told Make-A-Wish® volunteers that he wished to go to a dude ranch,
he soon learned that his brother, Asher, was too young to go horseback riding with
him. Cody decided to wait a few months for Asher to turn six so that they could
enjoy the wish together. Cody’s wish was worth the wait. When the brothers led
their parents on a ride under the Wyoming sky, the experience was everything
Cody hoped it would be – horses, endless trails and the people who mean the most
to him. Cody’s wish launched a new chapter in his life, full of new adventures with
    his family.

  • I wish to play the ukalele in Hawaii
    Celine, 15
    blood disorder

“There were days when Celine was in such pain in the hospital, I had to carry
her; she had no strength,” said Wil, Celine’s father. “The crazy meds that didn’t
work and the sleepless nights. We were often left in tears.” With Celine’s
medical condition, she has spent her whole life in and out of the hospital –
undergoing harsh medical procedures and treatments. Then a music therapist
introduced the ukulele to her that changed the course of her life. The
instrument helped her forget about her pain, cope with her hair loss from chemo
and feel good about herself again. Celine’s wish to go to Hawaii came naturally –
she wanted to visit the place where the ukulele was created. When they arrived,
her family was welcomed with a surprise ukulele concert, where Celine got on
stage and played her own song, “My Journey.” For the first time, Celine was no
longer in pain or fearful, she radiated strength and joy. “With my disease, I
always felt stuck in a bubble,” said Celine. “My wish and my music has shown me
that I can step out of that bubble. [My wish] reassured and inspired me to go
higher, think bigger … that I can do anything I put my mind to.”
